JDeveloper 12.c – Experience of the weekend.

We have been working in a POC integrating Oracle e-Business Suite in Oracle ADF. We are currently using JDeveloper 12.c due to the great new improvements. It has been amazing, the speed is really good in comparison of previous version some new components that are just beautiful out of the box. However, we had some issues while working with the IDE. We are listing them with a brief description and screenshot;

Note: JDeveloper was running in a machine with the following specs:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz × 4 – Memory : 5.7 GiB

So we have two outputFormatted components. No styles whatsoever. We assign font size xx-small to the first component:

Then, if we switch to the second component, it seems that the property box doesn’t refresh correctly and keeps showing that the font size is xx-small even though we are in a different component with no styles;

Now, if you try to asign x-large size to the second outputFormatted component, it assigns it to the previous one;

  • Problem with the ADF Security;

Everything seemed to be OK. Suddenly, authentication stopped working anymore – no jazn-data or security related files were modified. Every time we would run the application and enter the right credentials, the typical unauthorized screen would appear. Jazn-data file and jps were deleted, ADF Security configuration reconfigured and nothing. We had to delete the default domain and just then the issue disappeared.

  • The design mode crashed – After closing and reopen JDeveloper the issue disappeared. No steps to reproduce.

  • Problem importing pictures to the project;

This was a minor issue and we found a workaround. If you select the image from the dropdown list, nothing would happen;

So you need to click the settings icon and edit button; then you choose the file from the folder and click NO when it asks to put the file in the root;

Once we get updates on this we will be updating the entry with the possible causes / fixes.
